The Book of Lost Things

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

I just finished reading this book after first seeing it in Barnes & Nobles a few months ago and then rediscovering the awesome public library near my apartment. It was pretty good. A sort of coming-of-age story meets childhood imagination meets the twisted Grimm’s fairy tales. It also reminded me of the movie Where the Wild Things Are just in terms of the main character going on this adventure in another land run by childhood imagination and fears, parental troubles and then returning to the familiar.

Anyways, I think it’s worth reading. I was reading it before I went to sleep each night, and I have to admit that it gave me the goosebumps. There’s this eerie, dark mood to the book that sort of creeped me out. There’s a character called The Crooked Man and every time he was mentioned I shivered. Somehow I doubt this was meant to be a childrens’ book.

Now I’m going back to re-reading all the Harry Potter books in order :P

Currently on book 2.
