- If it looks like spam or a virus generated email, it probably is.
- Emails without a subject line should be shooting off red flags (and therefore you should never send an email without a relevant subject).
- Emails without body text or where the text just includes some link should also shoot off red flags.
- I will always tell you why I sent you a link if I do send you one. You should expect others to do the same, otherwise it’s better to be safe than sorry and just delete the email.
- And last but not least, always ask the sender first BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THE LINK if you are unsure!! Regardless of who else is included on the To: list!!!
It’s been one hell of a morning doing damage control and I’m a little shocked at how many people clicked on the emails that got blasted from my hacked account. Luckily, so far it seems that no harm was done by clicking on the link, but I still have no idea how my account was compromised.
Seems like the energy spent to create these things would seriously be better used on other more important issues.
